Stima (of the Water)

Pronounced Shtee-mah

Mythological being that can be seen or felt only at night. It lives in waters and usually appears as a cold pale white woman, who sits in water and has her breasts thrown over her shoulders. Sometimes it appears as a male, and sometimes as a siren (half woman half fish). It is always dressed in white. It comes out of the water during bad weather or on nights with moonlight, and starts walking on the streets. If you meet it, and do not address it or look at it at all, it will leave you alone. If you do look at it and address it, it will take your voice or maim you. It can only walk until midnight, when the roosters start singing. A Stima will also try to pull you to the water and drown you.
